Green Bay Packers' Woes Mount as NFC North Challenges Intensify

The Green Bay Packers' early-season problems grew on Thursday night as Atlanta dominated the second half and handed Green Bay a 35-14 defeat at Lambeau Field.

The loss dropped the Packers to 1-2 and added to a difficult start in an increasingly competitive NFC North.

Falcons Take Control After Halftime

Green Bay opened the game with a touchdown from Jordan Love to Christian Watson, but Atlanta gradually took control.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson was particularly effective, rushing for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Atlanta finished with 498 total yards, compared with 328 for Green Bay.

The Packers struggled to establish their running game, finishing with only nine rushing attempts as the Falcons controlled much of the contest.

Jordan Love Throws for 312 Yards

Love completed 28 of 53 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw an interception late in the fourth quarter.

Rookie Matthew Golden provided one of the Packers' biggest offensive highlights, catching five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Christian Watson added seven receptions for 96 yards and a score.

Despite those individual performances, Green Bay couldn't sustain enough offense to keep pace with Atlanta.

Injuries Add to Green Bay's Problems

The Packers entered the Falcons game dealing with injuries following their Week 2 overtime victory over the New York Jets.

Wide receiver Jayden Reed suffered a neck injury against New York, while offensive tackle Zach Bako-Bewele suffered a right knee injury. Both players left that game.

Green Bay's offensive-line depth was also a concern heading into Thursday night, with additional players dealing with injuries.

NFC North Gets More Complicated

The Packers are competing in a division that includes the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears.

Minnesota opened the season 2-0, while Detroit and Chicago entered Week 3 at 1-1. Green Bay's Week 3 loss now leaves the Packers at 1-2.

The NFC North was already expected to be highly competitive entering the season. NFL.com's preseason analysis highlighted both Green Bay's strengths and concerns surrounding Jordan Love, the running game and the defense.

Micah Parsons' Absence

Another major storyline surrounding Green Bay is the absence of star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who was expected to miss the beginning of the season.

NFL.com previously noted that Parsons' eventual return could provide a significant boost to the Packers' defense, although the timing and his form upon returning remain important questions.

What's Next for the Packers?

Green Bay now has to regroup after a disappointing loss at home.

The Packers' next scheduled game is October 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, followed by a Week 5 matchup against the Chicago Bears.

With the NFC North already tightly contested, Green Bay will need to address its offensive consistency, injuries and defensive issues as the season continues.

The Packers' 2026 season is still in its early stages, but the challenges are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
