Clemson Storms Out of Delay to 28-20 Comeback Victory Over North Carolina

Clemson produced a dramatic second-half comeback Saturday, rallying from a 14-point deficit to defeat North Carolina 28-20 at Memorial Stadium.

The Tigers trailed 17-3 early in the game and were still behind 20-15 late in the fourth quarter when lightning forced a lengthy weather delay. Play was stopped for a stadium-record 2 hours and 28 minutes.

When the teams returned, Clemson quickly changed the momentum.

Sophomore running back Gideon Davidson provided the decisive play, breaking a 45-yard run before scoring on an 8-yard touchdown run with 5:01 remaining. The touchdown put Clemson ahead 21-20.

Clemson's defense then forced North Carolina to turn the ball over on downs. Tyler Brown followed with a 34-yard rushing touchdown with one minute remaining to extend the lead to 28-20.

North Carolina's final attempt to rally ended when Clemson safety Elliot Washington II intercepted quarterback Billy Edwards with 37 seconds remaining.

Freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds, making his first career start, completed 20 of 29 passes for 215 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for 26 yards.

Davidson finished with 105 rushing yards on 16 carries and one touchdown. Christian Bentancur caught Reynolds' first career touchdown pass, a 27-yard score in the third quarter.

Clemson outscored North Carolina 22-3 in the second half after the Tar Heels had taken a 17-3 lead early in the contest. The victory improved Clemson to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play, while North Carolina fell to 2-1.

The Tigers will next travel to California to face the Cal Golden Bears on September 25.

Final Score: Clemson 28, North Carolina 20.

Human Remains Found Miles From Nancy Guthrie’s Home, Sheriff Says No Connection Human remains have been discovered in a desert area about 15 miles from the home of missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie, but authorities say there is currently no indication that the remains are connected to her disappearance.
