Dancing With the Stars Season 35 Eliminates First Celebrity During Surprising Premiere

The new season of Dancing With the Stars began with a surprise elimination on the first night of its two-part Season 35 premiere.

Conner Leavitt and professional partner Adele Zaikman were eliminated after the pair performed a Salsa to “Whoomp! (There It Is)” by Tag Team. Leavitt became the first celebrity contestant eliminated from Season 35.

A Different Kind of Premiere

Season 35 opened with a special two-night format on September 15 and 16. The male celebrities performed on the first night, while the female celebrities are scheduled to compete on the second night.

Unlike a traditional premiere with no immediate elimination, this season features an elimination on each night, resulting in two couples leaving during the opening event.

Conner Leavitt and Adele Zaikman Eliminated

Leavitt and Zaikman received 12 out of 30 points from the judges for their Salsa.

The judges praised Leavitt's enthusiasm but pointed to areas where the performance needed improvement. The couple ultimately received enough combined support from the judges' scores and viewer voting to remain near the bottom of the competition and were sent home.

For Zaikman, the elimination came during her professional debut on the main show after she earned her place as a pro through Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro.

Harry Shum Jr. Leads the Night

While Leavitt and Zaikman exited the competition, Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson made an early impression at the top of the leaderboard.

The pair earned 21 points for their Cha-Cha, the highest score of the first night. Paralympian Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach followed with 20 points.

Other notable scores included Tyler Cameron with 17 points, while Connor Wood and Taylor Hanson each scored 16.

Voting Problems Add to the Drama

The premiere also experienced technical difficulties involving the show's online voting system.

Because of the voting problems, viewers were directed to use text voting during the first night, adding another unexpected element to an already unusual premiere.

Another Elimination Is Coming

The Season 35 premiere continues with the female celebrities taking the ballroom floor on September 16.

One female celebrity and her professional partner will also be eliminated at the end of the second night, completing the premiere's planned double elimination.

With 15 couples remaining after the first night, the competition is already underway for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.

Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+, with episodes streaming on Hulu the following day.

Human Remains Found Miles From Nancy Guthrie’s Home, Sheriff Says No Connection Human remains have been discovered in a desert area about 15 miles from the home of missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie, but authorities say there is currently no indication that the remains are connected to her disappearance.
