King Charles III: The Current King of the United Kingdom

King Charles III is the current King of the United Kingdom. He became monarch on September 8, 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Who Is King Charles III?

Born Charles Philip Arthur George on November 14, 1948, Charles was the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

For decades before becoming king, he was known as the Prince of Wales and carried out public duties on behalf of the Royal Family.

As Prince of Wales, Charles was involved in environmental issues, education, the arts, healthcare, rural communities and charitable work. The Royal Family says he helped establish more than 20 charities over four decades.

Becoming King

Charles became King following Queen Elizabeth II's death on September 8, 2022. His accession ended Elizabeth II's 70-year reign and began a new chapter for the British monarchy.

His coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023.

The Role of the King

The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy. The monarch has important constitutional and ceremonial responsibilities, while elected government and Parliament exercise political power.

As King, Charles undertakes official engagements, receives foreign leaders and representatives, supports charitable and public causes, and represents the United Kingdom at home and abroad.

The Royal Family's official website describes the King as the UK's Head of State.

King Charles III Today

Charles continues to carry out official duties and public engagements. In September 2026, the Royal Family reported that the King visited Cairngorms National Park to thank people involved in tackling wildfires.

He also continues to undertake diplomatic and ceremonial responsibilities, including meetings with visiting foreign leaders and official overseas engagements.

The British Monarchy

The British monarchy has evolved significantly over centuries. Today's system is a constitutional monarchy in which the monarch's role is primarily constitutional and ceremonial, alongside the elected institutions of government.

King Charles III's reign therefore represents both continuity with Britain's long royal history and a new period for the modern monarchy.

Human Remains Found Miles From Nancy Guthrie’s Home, Sheriff Says No Connection Human remains have been discovered in a desert area about 15 miles from the home of missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie, but authorities say there is currently no indication that the remains are connected to her disappearance. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded to reports of human remains near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in the Tucson area. According to the sheriff’s department, the remains appear to have been at the location for an extended period of time. Officials have not indicated that they belong to Nancy Guthrie.
