Seahawks QB Sam Darnold Injures Hip vs. Patriots, MRI Set
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold suffered a right hip injury early in Wednesday night's season opener against the New England Patriots and was ruled out before halftime.
The injury occurred when Darnold was sacked by Patriots defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones. Darnold limped off the field and was later taken for additional medical testing. He completed 1 of 2 passes for 13 yards before leaving.
The encouraging news is that an X-ray and CT scan showed no hip fracture. However, the tests were not enough to determine the full extent of the injury, and Darnold is scheduled for an MRI Thursday.
Backup Drew Lock stepped in and helped Seattle rally from a 10-0 deficit to defeat New England 13-10. Lock finished 16-of-22 for 187 yards and a touchdown, while Seattle's defense intercepted Drake Maye three times in the fourth quarter.
